MT Story Walk

A few months ago, one of my elementary library colleagues in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District  noticed that librarians were talking about Story Walks appearing in neighborhoods. Creating a Story Walk involves carefully deconstructing two copies of a book, mounting the double page spreads and laminating them. Next, the pages are attached to a support (a long paint stick, a yardstick). Finally, the Story Walk is set up, keeping the stakes 6 feet apart for proper social distancing!

The Story Walk at Mt. Tabor Elementary featured Gustavo The Shy Ghost by Flavia Z. Drago. It included questions and explanations on several pages (ex. Make a prediction, What is the theme of the story, vocabulary words defined such as Day of the Dead). Teachers took their students outside to enjoy the story. Students are already asking when the next one will be out!
